The City Council appoints the municipal clerk. The clerk and her staff work for the legislative body. The clerk administers the City Council’s offices and serves as a conduit to the administration, the public, and other agencies for the City Council.
Mandated Duties of the City Clerk
The city clerk is responsible for:
Acting as the custodian of the city seal and the official records of the city
Publishing all legal documents as required by law
Recording and attesting to documents and codifying ordinances
Recording, filing, indexing, and safekeeping all proceedings of the council
Serving as registrar of the city and being responsible for calling for and supervising all city elections
The deputy city clerk serves as the public information officer and social media manager for the city and is responsible for disseminating information to the media and public as needed.
As of December 20, 2016, the city clerk also oversees the front office of city hall. Two friendly customer service representatives staff the front office and accept utility and property tax payments, address city account inquiries, process energy assistance registration, accept forms and applications, and provide general informational assistance to our residents and visitors.
To provide municipal election services, maintain the official records of all City Council proceedings, and perform other state and municipal statutory duties for elected officials, voters, city departments, and the public, in order that they may be guaranteed fair and impartial elections and open access to information and the legislative process.

Public Notice: Closures for Clinic Sidewalk Replacement
The southeast visitor parking area & sidewalk outside the Valdez Medical Clinic will be closed for construction from June 1st - July 15th. Construction includes replacement of the existing sidewalk and curb, as well as new ADA access.

One vacancy on the Valdez Museum &Historical Archive Association Board of Directors currently exists due to resignation. The term of office for this appointment will be one year & six months, expiring in January 2019. Application deadline: June 28th, 5pm.
