The City Council appoints the municipal clerk. The clerk and her staff work for the legislative body. The clerk administers the City Council’s offices and serves as a conduit to the administration, the public, and other agencies for the City Council.

Mandated Duties of the City Clerk

The city clerk is responsible for:
  • Acting as the custodian of the city seal and the official records of the city
  • Publishing all legal documents as required by law
  • Recording and attesting to documents and codifying ordinances
  • Recording, filing, indexing, and safekeeping all proceedings of the council
  • Serving as registrar of the city and being responsible for calling for and supervising all city elections

Additional Duties
The city clerk also serves as the public information officer for the city and is responsible for disseminating information to the media and public as needed.

Mission Statement
To provide municipal election services, maintain the official records of all City Council proceedings, and perform other state and municipal statutory duties for elected officials, voters, city departments, and the public, in order that they may be guaranteed fair and impartial elections and open access to information and the legislative process.
