Accepting Applications: City Ports & Harbors Commission

PUBLIC NOTICE

NOTICE OF PORTS & HARBORS COMMISSION VACANCY

There is one (1) upcoming vacancy on the Ports & Harbors Commission due to term expiration. The individual appointed to this commission shall serve a three (3) year term, expiring June 30, 2020.

Interested citizens may apply online through City’s boards & commissions portal www.ci.valdez.ak.us/boardsandcommissions. Paper applications may also be obtained at City Hall. Applications will be accepted until 5:00 P.M., Monday, June 12, 2017 for appointment by City Council on Tuesday,
June 20, 2017.

Description of Duties 
The Port and Harbor Commission may recommend to the City Council policies relating to the city’s ports, harbors, and transportation issues including, but not limited to seaport, airport and land terminals. The Ports and Harbors Commission advises the City Council on the following areas of public interest and concern:

• Valdez small boat harbors: Development, design, operation, maintenance, tariffs and fees;
• Valdez port, including all docks: Development, design, operation, maintenance, tariffs and fees and stevedore services;
• Valdez airport: Development, design, operation, maintenance, tariffs and fees;
• Alaska Marine Highway: Equipment, schedules, services and docks;
• Integration of systems: General integration of the air, highway and water transportation systems with the general and industrial development of the city;
• Vehicles for hire, taxicabs, buses and limousines: Franchises, fares, routes and services;
• Hostler and cartage: Service and tariffs within the city limits.
