  1. HAWK May 26th thru September 1st

    May 26, 8:00 AM - September 1, 5:00 PM

    HAWK - Hike Alaska’s Wild Kountry - 2014 For ages 5 and above Pick up a HAWK program trail card at the P&R Office at the Civic Center, at the Healthier You Finale, or at the May 17th Clean-Up Day BBQ Hike, on foot, 3 or more of the trails listed on the reverse side of this card. Valdez Trail information is available in the Parks and Recreation Summer Trail Map Guide or online at: Log the date you hiked each trail on the reverse side of this tracking card. Turn in your completed trail card at the Parks & Rec Office at the Civic Center or log on to to fill out and submit the online trail form on or before September 1, 2014. Each participant must turn in an individual trail card. Prize Drawings for hiking 3, 5, 7 or all 9 trails. Participants will be entered in each Prize drawing for which they qualify (for example, a person who hikes all 9 trails will be entered in each drawing), but may only win 1 prize

  3. Cruising the Seven Seas Camp 1PM-5PM at theTeen Center *Pre-registration Required*

    August 1, 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM @ Game Room

    A chance for students entering grades 1-4 to explore the world of boats! This week's interactive games, crafts, and activities will center around different types of boats and boating recreation. We will use this camp to help students get a jump-start on their "Build-A-Boat" vessel for the upcoming weekend's Build-A-Boat-Hope-It-Floats event during Gold Rush Days. Camp will meet 1:00pm- 5:00pm each day at the Teen Center, $70 per camper. Max 21 campers. This camp is open for youth entering grades 3-9.   4. Kids Scavenger Hunt 2:30PM at Barney Meyring Picnic Shelter

    August 1, 2:30 PM - 4:00 PM @ Barney Meyring Park - North

    A Gold Rush Days Event sponsored by Valdez Parks and Recreation Children of all ages, in teams of three, search the area for items. The team finding the most items will win a great prize! FREE and open to ALL AGES! No pre-registration needed, just show up with all your friends!

  5. CVT High-Five Triathalon 9AM Registration at Valdez High School

    August 2, 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM @ Valdez High School

    The 17th Annual Copper Valley Telecom High 5 Triathlon is a Gold Rush Days staple event! Register as an individual or form a relay team. Swim 11 laps, Bike 5.19 miles, and Run 1.59 miles to complete this course! Saturday, August 2nd 9:00 AM Registration 10:00 AM Race All Ages- under 12 must be accompanied by adult Free *Must wear helmet to participate*

  6. Pet-a-polooza Pet Show 2:00PM at Barney Meyring North Picnic Shelter

    August 2, 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM @ Barney Meyring Park - North

    Pet-a-polooza Pet Show- a Gold Rush Days Event Bring all pets large and small to the Pet-a-polooza Pet Show! Prizes will be awarded based on a number of parameters. Come to the Pet-a-polooza at the Meyring Park Picnic Shelter next to the tennis courts—who knows what kind of creatures will be at this free event.   7. Endurocross ATV Obstacle Course Races 1PM at Valdez Glacier Lake Gravel Pit

    Challenge yourself and your friends! Endurocross is an obstacle course set up to test an ATV rider’s skill against the clock and other competitors.   8. Salmonberry Summit Challenge 2PM at Salmonberry Ski Hill

    August 17, 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM @ Salmonberry Ski Hill

    The Salmonberry Summit Challenge is not for the faint of heart- or lungs- or legs! This heart pumping event will pit man vs. hill, as contestants run up, then down our 300' vertical ski hill, only to turn around and bike up and down the same route. Individuals or pairs welcome. This challenge is open only to individuals 18 years and older and helmets are required. This is an Richardson Hwy Rendezvous charitable event- proceeds will benefit the Friends of the Valdez Animal Shelter and KCHU Public Radio. Sunday, August 17th 2:00PM - Registration/ 2:30PM- Races $20 - Solo/ $30 - Team of 2 Ages 18yrs + *Helmets are required Individual and Pairs Divisions

  9. Rock & Roll 5K & 10K 10AM at the Kelsey Dock Plaza

    August 23, 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM @ John Thomas Kelsey Municipal Dock & Plaza

    5K & 10K Bike, Blade, Skate, Scoot, Walk & Run with 1Mile Kids Run Rock out on either the 5K or 10 K course & pick your instrument of choice: your feet, bike, blades, roller skates, or scooter- This multiple choice Fun Run gives you lots of options! Come dressed as your favorite Rock-N-Roll artist and you might win the COSTUME CONTEST!! *HELMET Required for all racers on wheels! (Bikes, blades, skates, and scooters)* This race is co-sponsored by the Richardson Highway Music Festival (RHR), so all proceeds of the race will benefit the Friends of the Valdez Animal Shelter and KCHU Public Radio. The race will end at the RHR Music Festival, just in time for some live music, food, and fun!!
